Trip Notes: If the name Mt. Airy sounds familiar, you're a fan of the Andy Griffith Show. You know, the one with Opie, Aunt Bea and Barney Fife. Mt. Airy, right next to Mayberry. After a fantastic ride down the Blue Ridge Parkway, I ended up at the Mayberry Motel. More about that tomorrow. Blue Ridge Parkway winds its way down the spine of the Blue Ridge Mountains, and just like Skyline Drive yesterday, features spectacular vistas of the Piedmont Plateau to the east and Shenandoah Valley to the west. One stopping point today was Otter Lake. Lots of bikers to talk with on the route. Hooked up with a guy named Bruce Gage from West Chicago who rode to Mt Airy with me. Good company. I hear there's an Andy Griffith museum in town and I'll check it out in the morning. |
