Great day with Bill Mahnkey, my Navy ship mate. Did you know that in
1950 the entire town of Forsyth moved from the side of the
White River to a ridge well above the water. That's because the
Army Corps of Engineers dammed the river creating a lake that
would've inundated the town.
That's just one of the
fascinating facts Bill shared during his
guided tour of the
community his family's lived in for generations.
The afternoon meant a leisurely ride along US-62 through northern Arkansas.
Only two more states to complete the 48. Oklahoma tomorrow. |
