Warned of frigid
water, deadly sharks and crowds of locals, I went prepared with warm wet
suit, hood, booties, a wary eye and some common courtesy.
Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz surprised me. I was overly warm as I
sat in the line up chatting with the locals as head-high to overhead
sets rolled in. Well, roll isn't exactly the description; pitched
is a more accurate description. Top-to-bottom waves over a rocky
beach.
Beginners need not apply! This is for experienced surfers
only. It's a tough in and out of the water off the cliff or over
the rocks.
Use caution, respect the locals and enjoy.
